The Portuguese government announced the launch of a new digital platform for submitting and processing nationality applications. The expectation is that the platform, put into operation on October 1, 2024, will fully automate the process, since sending documents to final decision-making.

One of the main innovations is the transfer to the electronic format of interaction with external organizations, which significantly speeds up one of the most time-consuming stages of order processing.

The initiative is a part of the government's efforts to modernize administrative systems and improve the efficiency of processing nationality applications.

According to official data, the new system should increase IRN yield by 50%, which, in turn, will reduce application processing time.

A new online portal has also been introduced to allow applicants to track the status of their cases.
