A Digital Mobile Key (DMK) is a simple and secure form of authentication that allows you to access public service portals and private organizations servicer, as well as sign documents digitally (sign documents with a digital signature, which has the same legal force as a handwritten signature)

A digital mobile key can be requested by:

- a Portuguese citizen - in person or online: https://www.autenticacao.gov.pt/ or https://www.gov.pt/servicos/ativar-a-chave-movel-digital - a foreign citizen - in person at the IRN or at citizen bureaus (Lojas de Cidadão). In this case, you must have a passport, a residence permit card (or temporary protection for Ukrainians), a Portuguese NIF and a Portuguese mobile phone number.

With a Digital Mobile Key, you can authenticate using only your mobile phone, PIN code and temporary security code.

DMK links your mobile phone number to your ID number.

DMK has two security factors:

- a four-digit PIN that you choose yourself; - a digital and temporary security code that is only valid for each authentication. This code consists of six digits and is sent via SMS, email or push notification to your mobile phone.
